Viewport Navigation

Understanding how to navigate the viewport is essential for efficient work in Glossi Studio.

The viewport in Glossi serves two important functions:

  1. Free Exploration Mode: An unrestricted view of your scene that you can freely navigate by clicking and dragging

  2. Shot Preview Mode: A way to preview and adjust saved shots (bookmarks in Photo Mode or clips in Video Mode). You will enter preview mode when a bookmark and clip is selected.

You can switch between these functions at any time - explore freely to find new angles, then select a saved shot to review or refine it.

Basic Navigation Controls

Glossi gives you two complementary ways to view and capture your 3D model:

  1. Visual navigation: Directly interact with the viewport using mouse controls

  2. Numerical inputs: Enter precise values in the Edit Panel

These approaches work together seamlessly - as you navigate visually, the numerical values update automatically in the Edit Panel, giving you both intuitive control and precision.

Mouse Controls

The mouse controls in Glossi follow standard conventions for 3D software, making them intuitive for most users:

  • Orbit: Left-click and drag to rotate the camera around your model

    • This keeps your model centered while changing your viewing angle

    • Moving left/right rotates horizontally around the model

    • Moving up/down adjusts the vertical angle of view

  • Pan: Right-click and drag to move the camera position horizontally

    • This shifts your view without changing the camera angle

    • Useful for recentering your model in the frame

  • Zoom: Scroll the mouse wheel to move closer or further from the product

    • Scroll up to zoom in, down to zoom out

    • This simulates moving the camera closer or further away (while keeping the focla length the same)

These controls can be used in combination to achieve any viewing angle or composition. For example, you might orbit to find the right angle, pan to center your subject, then zoom to frame it perfectly.
