hand-back-point-upViewport Navigation

Understanding how to navigate the viewport is essential for efficient work in Glossi Studio.

Viewport Modes

The viewport serves two functions:

  • Free Camera — An unrestricted view of your scene that you can freely navigate by clicking and dragging. Use this to find new angles and compositions.

  • Capture Preview — A preview of a saved capture. You enter this mode when you select a bookmark (Photo mode) or a clip (Video mode). The viewport snaps to the saved camera position so you can review or refine it.

You can switch between these at any time — explore freely to find new angles, then select a saved shot to review it.

Mouse Controls

The viewport controls follow standard conventions for 3D software:

  • Orbit — Left-click and drag to rotate the camera around your model. Your model stays centered while the viewing angle changes. Moving left/right rotates horizontally; moving up/down adjusts the vertical angle.

  • Pan — Right-click and drag to move the camera position horizontally. This shifts your view without changing the camera angle, useful for recentering your model in the frame.

  • Zoom — Scroll the mouse wheel to move closer to or further from your model. This simulates moving the camera while keeping the focal length the same.

These controls can be used in combination. For example, orbit to find the right angle, pan to center your subject, then zoom to frame it.

Visual and Numerical Controls

Glossi provides two complementary ways to control the camera:

  • Visual navigation — Interact directly with the viewport using mouse controls.

  • Numerical inputs — Enter precise values in the right sidebar's edit panel.

These work together — as you navigate visually, the numerical values update automatically in the edit panel, giving you both intuitive control and precision.
