Assigning model variants

Learn how to connect different states or configurations of the same product to streamline your visualization workflow.

Assigning variants in Glossi allows you to connect different versions of the same product within a single project, significantly streamlining your visualization workflow.

For example, the model of your furniture design might have both standard and open-drawer states. With Glossi, you upload both versions of the model, connect them as variants, and preview or render either state within one project.

Assigning Variants

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Select the ellipses icon when hovering over a model in your library

  2. Click "Assign Variant"

  3. Select the model you wish to connect as a variant from the list (e.g., open accent console)

  4. Select 'Add Variant'

  5. Once added, your selected variant will be visible in the left-hand column

  6. The models will now be linked as variants of each other

Working with Different Variant Types:

You can assign any model as a variant of any other model - whether it's just a material change, a different size, or a completely different configuration - ensuring complete flexibility for your workflow.

You can link:

  • Different material options on the same geometry (fabric options, finishes)

  • Different geometric states (open/closed drawers, extended/folded elements)

  • Different accessory configurations (with/without optional elements)

While Glossi currently only supported on model-based variants, you can also also create material variations by importing a duplicate model and changing it in studio

Best Practices:

  • Designate the most commonly displayed configuration as your primary model

  • Maintain consistent variant relationships across product families

  • Use clear naming conventions that indicate variant type (e.g., "Open," "Closed")

  • When building shot lists, leverage variants to create comprehensive product packages

Effective variant management creates a more streamlined visualization workflow, allowing you to showcase all your product options with consistent lighting, angles, and quality.
