Editing Lights

Basic Light Controls

The left panel gives you access to all lighting settings. Select any light to reveal its properties and make adjustments:

  1. Open the "This Scene" tab on the left-hand panel

  2. Locate the light you want to adjust in the list

  3. Select the light to reveal its properties

  4. Modify settings such as:

    • Intensity: Controls brightness

    • Color: Adjusts light color temperature

    • Size: Alters the light's area (for light boxes)

These basic controls let you fine-tune each light's contribution to your scene. Start with intensity adjustments to balance your lights, then refine with color settings to create the right mood for your product.

Positioning and Orbiting Lights

Precise light positioning creates professional results. When a light is selected, you can adjust its position in space:

  1. Use the Orbit controls to move the light around your product

    • X Orbit: Rotates the light horizontally around the product

    • Y Orbit: Changes the light's height relative to the product

  2. Adjust Distance to move the light closer or further from the target

  3. Use the position indicator to see exactly where your light is located

The white tracking line shows the light's direction and target, helping you visualize how it affects your product. This visual feedback makes it easy to create precise lighting setups without guesswork.

Light Targeting

Directing lights to specific areas creates focus on important product features:

  1. Select a light in the panel

  2. In the Position section, you have two targeting options:

    • Target the Scene: Light focuses on the center of the entire scene

    • Target the Product: Light focuses specifically on your model

    • Target a Specific Part: Choose a camera target from the dropdown

    • Click to Place: Click directly on any part of your model to target that point

This targeting capability is particularly valuable for highlighting key furniture details like hardware, joinery, or material transitions. For example, you might target a spotlight at metal drawer pulls to create a highlight that draws attention to this design feature.

Light Interaction Controls

Each light can be configured to affect different elements in your scene:

  1. Select a light in the panel

  2. Look for the Affects settings, which control what the light affects:

    • Product Only: Light only affects your model, not the background

    • Environment Only: Light only affects the background, not your model

    • Both: Light affects everything in the scene

This selective control gives you precise power over how each light contributes to your overall visualization. For example, you might use a rim light that only affects the product to create edge highlights, while keeping it from interfering with your backdrop.
