Import from Keyshot

This documentation will walk you through the process of exporting your optimized 3D models from Keyshot and importing them seamlessly into Glossi Studio. By following these steps, you can ensure that your models are optimized for performance and visual quality within the Glossi platform.

🚀 Optimize Your Model in Keyshot 🚀

Before exporting your model, it's crucial to optimize it to ensure efficiency and quality within Glossi Studio. This involves a few key steps:

  • Save a Copy: Always start by saving a copy of your Keyshot project to preserve the original file.

  • Remove Obstructed Geometry:

    • Identify any internal geometry that is completely hidden within your scene.

    • Delete this unnecessary geometry to reduce file size and improve performance.

  • Initial Export Attempt:

    • Try exporting your model at this stage to gauge the level of optimization required.

    • In the best-case scenario, your model might already be optimized!

    • If not, this initial export will give you insights into further adjustments needed.

Optimize Materials

Reducing duplicate materials can significantly decrease your file size and improve loading times in Glossi.

  • Access Material View: Navigate to the Material View within Keyshot.

  • Link Duplicate Materials:

    • Right-click on any duplicate material.

    • Select "Link Duplicate Materials" from the context menu.

    • Choose to link all duplicates or specific ones.

    • Linking duplicates prevents exporting unnecessary textures, reducing file size.

📐 Optimize Mesh Density 📐

Optimizing mesh density ensures your model is detailed but also efficient. The approach varies depending on whether your model uses NURBS:

  • Using NURBS:

    • Select the mesh you want to optimize.

    • Use the "Retest" tool under the Tools dropdown.

    • Adjust the Tessellation Quality slider to reduce the number of faces while maintaining the model's silhouette.

    • Experiment with the Angle Tolerance and Maximum Edge Length sliders for further refinement.

  • Using Mesh Simplification:

    • If your model doesn't use NURBS, use the Mesh Simplification tool.

    • Select your mesh and go to Tools -> Mesh Simplification.

    • Adjust the triangle count slider to control simplification.

    • Be cautious and pay attention to the silhouette as you make adjustments.

    • Remember that this method is destructive, so have a backup of your original model.

📤 Export from Keyshot 📤

Once your model is optimized, export it in a format compatible with Glossi:

  • Go to File -> Export -> glb/gltf.

  • Check "Keep Original UVs" if you modified your UV mapping.

  • Select "Prefer Textures" unless you're using geometry nodes.

  • Consider lowering texture resolution if the file size is too large.

  • Execute the export and save your glb/gltf file.

📥 Import into Glossi 📥

Importing your optimized model into Glossi Studio is a breeze:

  • Click the Upload button within Glossi Studio.

  • Drag and drop your exported model file.

  • Create a new project and name it.

  • Launch Glossi Studio and examine your imported model.

  • Start creating stunning images!

💡 Additional Tips 💡

  • Remove Unseen Geometry: Always eliminate geometry not visible in the final render.

  • Link Duplicate Materials: This minimizes unnecessary texture exports.

  • Backup Original Files: Before mesh simplification, back up your original models.

  • Iterative Exports: Export at various stages to find the best balance between file size and quality.

  • Texture Optimization: Lowering texture resolutions can significantly reduce file sizes.

  • Real-Time Adjustments: Use Glossi Studio's real-time editing for immediate feedback.

By following this guide, you can efficiently bring your Keyshot models into Glossi Studio, ensuring high-quality visualizations for your product presentations and marketing materials. If you need further assistance, don't hesitate to contact Glossi Support!
